Interview Questions

November 3, 2009

DUE DATE:  Tuesday, November 24. We don’t have class that night.  Email it to me by Midnight on 11/24.

For this project, you must contact 3 high school/middle school choir directors and have conversation regarding the following topics. Please either record and transcribe your conversation or take excellent notes. I would like for this conversation to be verbal—not e-mail…although, feel free to set up the phone appointment via e-mail.

You may want to send the directors the questions in advance so that they have time to think about their answers. The conversation itself should last from approximately 15-30 minutes.
You should open the conversation by explaining that you are in Dr. Copeland’s secondary methods class at UAB and that there are several questions you would like to discuss as a future music educator.

1. What has been your biggest challenge in the development of your
program?

2. How do your choir parents contribute to your program? Do you ever run
into difficulties with them?

3. How do you choose music for your group?

4. How do you prioritize budget items?

5. Does your group travel? How often?

6. What is the biggest challenge facing a first year choral director?

7. How do you pace yourself and your students to stay motivated throughout the year? Over a multi-year period?

8. What else can you tell me that you think a future choir director should
know that I might not learn in a class?
